Trump’s Third Term in 2028? Steve Bannon Predicts Historic Political Comeback

Former White House strategist Steve Bannon has made a bold claim: President Donald Trump will run for a third presidential term in 2028, despite the constitutional two-term limit.

What Bannon Says About Trump’s 2028 Run

Bannon, who played a pivotal role in Trump’s 2016 campaign, told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo that he firmly believes Trump will be on the ballot again in 2028. “A man like this comes along once every century if we’re lucky,” Bannon said. “We’ve got him now. He’s on fire, and I’m a huge supporter.”

When asked how Trump could bypass the 22nd Amendment, which bars anyone from being elected president more than twice, Bannon replied vaguely, “We’re working on it,” adding that various alternatives are in development but declined to provide details.

The Constitutional Challenge: 22nd Amendment

Ratified in 1951, the 22nd Amendment sets a strict limit: no person shall be elected to the presidency more than twice. This law was enacted after Franklin D. Roosevelt served four terms, breaking the previous informal two-term tradition.

Bannon’s suggestion that Trump could secure a third term defies this well-established constitutional restriction, raising legal and political questions experts say would require major constitutional changes or reinterpretations.

Trump’s Own Remarks on Multi-Term Presidency

Trump has previously joked about serving more than two terms. At a Nevada rally in January, he said serving “twice or three times or four times” would be the “greatest honor” of his life.

Political Moves Supporting a Third Term

Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has proposed amending the Constitution to allow presidents who did not serve consecutive terms to run for a total of three terms. Ogles said this was crucial to “correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration.”

What This Means for the 2028 Election

Trump’s second current term began last year after defeating Kamala Harris, Biden’s chosen successor. If he seeks a third term, it would mark a historic break with U.S. precedent and likely intensify political debates over election laws and constitutional authority.

Bannon’s Clarification on Political Approach

Pressed on whether this movement implies violence or insurrection, Bannon firmly stated, “No. We are big believers in democracy.” He emphasized mobilizing voters, including those typically less engaged, to support Trump’s political aims.
